This is reflected by the active involvement of our
membership in all aspects of communal life, whether
religious, educational, cultural or social. Not
surprisingly, members soon come to regard SWESRS as an
extension of their own families, sharing both the joys
and sorrows of life, but always encountering sympathy
and understanding.
We are proud of the diversity of our membership as each of our members
brings something unique to SWESRS,
and we consider ourselves especially fortunate to have
a real sense of community, which is often sadly
lacking in modern life.
Formed in 1956, with the aims of providing
and maintaining a Reform Synagogue for the purposes of
public worship and advancing religious and educational
activities for the residents of Redbridge and its
environs the congregation has achieved and continues to achieve its
aims.
The annual family subscription covers husband and wife, as well as all single children up to 21 years. From this age they may become members in their own right although some choose to join earlier as junior or student members.
Membership Membership benefits include:
- Seating at all services - including the High Holydays
- Children's religious education
- Burial rights
- Access to Activities and Groups
- Use of Synagogue and Communal facilities at a preferred rate.
Apart from membership subscriptions, no other fees or donations are requested. Although there are annual charity appeals and fund raising functions, the practice of placing pressure on members to make donations is discouraged.
Membership applications are available from the download page. If you come across a term you don’t understand clicking on the SWESRS logo will take you to a glossary.
